At Eco Cabins, our luxury cabins are situated in the colourful Western Cape mountain wilderness. From stargazing at the immense night sky to hiking through unforgettable mountain trails, there is plenty to do. In this article, we will highlight a few of the activities that you can enjoy when staying at our Eco Cabins Western Cape.

Eco Cabins Western Cape: Take In The Outdoors

One of the most exciting parts of going to stay at our Eco Cabins is getting to be in and around nature. The outdoors can be a magnificent and awe-inspiring place, often representing the perfect way to unwind. Even if you’re not necessarily an outdoor enthusiast, you may be surprised at how quickly you can adapt in the right conditions. Here are a few of the most enjoyable outdoor activities around our Eco Cabins:

Hiking

Any outdoor enthusiast is bound to love the hiking trails in and around our eco cabins. The surrounding wilderness is a sight to behold. The mountain is filled to the brim with colourful indigenous plants that paint the landscape, and the hiking trails move past some of nature’s most spectacular sights, such as waterfalls, flowing rivers, mountain peaks and enormous trees. Whether you’d like to take a short walk or explore deeper into nature, there is something for everyone.

Stargazing

A far more relaxing outdoor activity is stargazing. In a night sky away from light pollution, the stars are prominent, bright and incredibly breathtaking to watch. Spot shooting stars, identify clusters and star formations, or simply just take in the magnificence of our universe. Unlike in the city and suburbs, the stars are not hidden away by waves of light pollution. You can finally see what sits above us at all times.

Rock Pool Swimming

Need a reset? Few things do the job as well as swimming in our restorative rock pools. These natural pools are perfect for relaxing and unwinding in. The inviting water has plenty of space for you to swim in without feeling cramped. On a hot summer’s day, enjoying the rock pool’s cold water can be deeply relaxing.

Birdwatching

The multi-coloured, diverse range of birds in the Western Cape is a birdwatcher’s dream. All around the mountains, birds of all kinds can be found. You can choose to sit on the porch of the eco cabin with binoculars, or take your birdwatching gear with you whenever you head out for a hike or swim. You never know what you may spot.

Eco Cabins Western Cape: Explore The Different Wine Routes

The Western Cape and wine routes go hand-in-hand. All across the province, you will find world-renowned wine estates and farms. Wine lovers and connoisseurs can enjoy high-quality wines on gorgeous farms with the Cape’s mountains as the backdrop. Here are a few wine farms in Breedekloof, just a short trip away from our Eco Cabins:

Breedekloof Wine Valley

Founded in 2002, the Breedekloof Wine Route has been thriving for more than two decades. With 15 wineries of varying sizes, there is plenty to enjoy. From cellar-to-cellar tours to cheese and wine tasting, the valley is known for being welcoming and family-oriented.

Most of the estates are family-owned, and generations of winemaking families have grown up together. The wine valley is also home to the Breedekloof Makes Initiative, a collective showcasing of the Chenin Blanc by a group of South African winemakers.

In addition to the exceptional wines and beautiful mountain backdrop, there are hiking trails, cooking classes, art exhibitions, and more to enjoy. If wine and family are two of your favourite things, then the Breedekloof Wine Valley is a great choice of outing.

Worcester Wine And Olive Route

The Worcester Wine and Olive Route sits on the edges of the Cape Winelands, a few minutes from Eco Cabins Western Cape. Rugged mountains and outstretched vineyards serve as your view while enjoying this world-class wine and olive route. With 11 award-winning estates and two high-quality olive producers, there are few places quite like the Worcester Wine and Olive Route.

On the cellar-to-cellar tour, lovers of wine are bound to walk away impressed. The wines on offer are among some of the best in the country. You can also enjoy food and wine pairings, cheese platters, and even full meals made by expert chefs. The olive route also means there is an opportunity to explore the ancient olive and its modern-day twists.

At the Worcester Wine and Olive Route, you get a relaxed country atmosphere, world-class wines, and a gorgeous view of nature’s beauty. This family-oriented wine farm is happy to welcome you.

Le Belle Rebelle

On the Stofberg Family Vineyards sits Le Belle Rebelle, a popular winery and distillery in Breedekloof. The owner of the farm is deeply committed to quality and believes that it starts in the vineyard. On the vineyards, everything is done by hand to guarantee maximum quality.

On the estate range, they only use grapes from the Stofberg Family Vineyards. The non-estate wine range uses grapes from other regions as well, focusing on innovation. All in all, both the estate range and non-estate range have incredible wine on hand.

Belle Rebelle also has a distillery that was started in 2015 for the production of vintage estate brandy. The team produces four barrels of high-quality brandy per year using grapes from the Stofberg farm. The team also started producing gin in 2016, and now has award-winning gin and wine available for guests.

Eco Cabins Western Cape: Unwind Around The Cabin

Of course, getaways don’t have to be all action and no relaxation. For most of us, heading to these cabins gives us a chance to properly unwind without the distractions of work and other responsibilities. Our cabins are designed for exactly that. If you’re not in the mood for tackling the outdoors or enjoying a nearby wine route, staying at the cabin is a great alternative.

At Eco Cabins, our cabins were created to provide maximum comfort. The spacious design is big enough for two people to enjoy without feeling in any way cramped or uncomfortable. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and the rooms come with a stunning view of the sky.

Spend some time sitting around the fireplace. Each cabin comes stacked with enough firewood for you to enjoy. There is also a designated outdoor space for outdoor cooking, such as braaiing and cooking a potjie, as well as for making a fire outdoors.

Meditating in the mountains can feel incredibly restorative. At our dedicated meditation spot, you can comfortably enjoy mindfulness activities like meditation and yoga with the mountain wilderness as your backdrop. Maintaining a sense of presence in nature can be rewarding in many ways, and your mental health is often better off for it.

We understand not everybody wants to shut off from the world. If you’re worried about being too disconnected, don’t stress. Our cabins come with uncapped Wi-Fi, so you’ll always have access to the internet, should you need it. You can stream any of the movies or series that you like and get in touch with whoever you want, all from the heart of the mountain.

Eco Cabins Western Cape: Visit Nearby Towns

If you’d like to learn more about some of the local history, consider taking a short trip to one of the historic towns of Wolseley or Tulbagh.

Wolseley

Right here in the Breede River Valley is Wolseley, a town full of history and remarkable natural beauty. The town was originally known as Ceres Road Station before being renamed in honour of Sir Garnet Wolseley. There is a lot to enjoy in Wolseley, with activities and events often taking place all year-round.

While here, be sure to explore the 1901 Anglo-Boer blockhouse. This is an incredible historical site that has withstood the test of time, the stone structure lasting for over a century. You can book an appointment for a guided tour of the blockhouse to learn more about its history.

Tulbagh

Tulbagh is considered the fourth oldest town in South Africa and dates all the way back to the 1700s. There are many Cape Dutch, Edwardian and Victorian provincial heritage sites in the town. The town itself began to develop from 1743 after it was initially discovered in 1658 by Pieter Potter, the surveyor general to the first governor of the Cape, Jan Van Riebeeck.

With no less than five museums in the town, this is a town with a rich history. Tulbagh is also an appealing destination for those who wish to trace their ancestry buried in the graveyard of De Oudekerk. Anyone who loves history will likely enjoy a visit to this historic town.
