Mountain Cabins Western Cape: Winelands At Your Feet

The Western Cape is famous for its wines. All throughout the province, you will find some of the world’s best wine routes with wide-stretching vineyards and mountains offering the ultimate backdrop. The welcoming local hospitality only adds to the experience, and whether you’re a local or an international tourist, everybody feels at home. For connoisseurs and wine-lovers alike, there is much to enjoy.

Breedekloof Wine Valley

For wine lovers, the Breedekloof Wine Valley is right up the road from our cabins. First founded in 2002, the valley consists of 15 wineries, the cellars ranging from small boutique estates to larger co-operatives with a lot more capacity. The Breedekloof Wine Valley is also known for its Breedekloof Makers Initiatives, a group of winemakers who banded together to showcase the Chenin Blanc.

Almost all of the estates in the Breedekloof are family-owned, and the passion has passed through generations. At its roots, the Wine Valley is built on connection, family and a love for world-class wines.

Worcester Wine And Olive Route

Just a bit further is the Worcester Wine and Olive Route, famous for its open plains and wide-stretched vineyards. The route is surrounded by enormous and rugged mountain landscapes, giving you a spectacular view of nature’s beauty.

The wine route has 11 award-winning wine estates, as well as 2 top-of-the-line olive producers that rank among the best in the world. The atmosphere is rustic and old-school, with a real country feel. The cellar-to-cellar tour is a dream for wine lovers and connoisseurs – the awards were not for no reason, and all the wines are of the highest quality.

Mountain Cabins South Africa: Adventure Awaits

South Africa, known as the Rainbow Nation, is a country rich in biodiversity with some of the best mountain retreats in the world. Eco Cabins secluded retreat is not without adventure, either, and the outdoor enthusiast can find plenty to keep the adrenaline going. From biking through the mountains to river paddling, there is more than enough to do.

Hiking And Mountain Biking Trails

South Africa, and the Western Cape in particular, is well known for its hiking and mountain biking trails. While staying at our luxury mountain cabins, you may want to explore the outdoors a little further, and there are many routes you can choose to take. The following hiking trails are some of the most popular in the surrounding areas.

Bobbejaans River Trail: The Bobbejaans River Trail, a tributary of the Witte River, is situated in Bainskloof, a short trip from your cabin. The hike starts at the Eerste Tol parking area, where you can feel free to leave your vehicle. The trail follows alongside a river and eventually leads to a gorgeous waterfall. On top of that, there are plenty of rock pools for you to swim in. The 9km trail takes around 6 hours to complete in total. In the winter season, the river is often overflowing, making it difficult and dangerous to cross, and as such, the trail is often closed during times of heavy rainfall.

Rock Hopper Trail: The Rock Hopper trail is a bit more difficult, with certain sections requiring rock hopping to move through. On the route, you find your own way down a boulder-strewn riverbed enclosed by riverine bush. For the most part, the river’s obstacles can be sidestepped, but at a certain point, you will have to wade through a rock pool. The trail is linear, meaning you may need a vehicle at the beginning of the trail and at the end. The trail’s overall distance is 8km long and can take up to 6 hours to complete. If the river is notably high, the trails are closed for safety reasons.

Happy Valley Trail: If a difficult hike sounds like too much, consider the much easier Happy Valley trail, which is perfect for beginners and families. The trail is limited to 12 people per day and features plenty of accessible rock pools in the heart of the mountains. These private pools are situated where the two rivers meet, an incredibly gorgeous sight to behold. After you’re done, you can return via the same route to get back to your vehicle. A total of 9km, it will take you around 6 hours to complete.

Other Nearby Mountain Cabin Activities

If hiking and mountain biking aren’t your thing, there are other activities close to the mountain cabins that you may find appealing.

  • River Paddling: For a fun-filled water-based activity, you can go river paddling in the Breedekloof Wine Valley. The gorgeous rivers are a sight to behold, and paddling is a great way to experience the outdoors.
  • Fly Fishing: You can also head over to the Holsoot River to go fly fishing. The river is regarded as one of the most highly regarded dry fly venues in the country.
  • Bird Watching: The Breedekloof area and the surrounding mountains are home to a wide range of bird types. If birdwatching is your thing, you won’t be disappointed.
  • Craft Gin Tasting: Just a 16-minute drive from the cabin, you can find the Monks Distillery, where you can enjoy craft gin tasting.
