Introducing Our Eco Cabins

Are you tired of the city and the driven, busy life that comes with it? Are you and your partner always talking about the romantic time that you’re going to spend together without distractions, but never seem to find the time to embrace those intimate times? If either of these is at all relatable to you, a mountain getaway is exactly what you need.

Just over an hour outside of Cape Town, near the town of Worcester, sits a swathe of land nestled between the rolling mountains. For nearly a century, this old piece of farmland has been left to allow nature to reclaim the space, with natural fynbos and native wildlife once more reigning free here. The only sign of human habitation is a scattering of a few luxurious eco cabins, built to be inconspicuous and maximise privacy.

Balancing the experience of the rugged outdoors and luxury, at these eco cabins, you get to enjoy the full majesty of nature without having to give up on the finer comforts. They’re the perfect place to book a weekend away, where you and a loved one get to unplug and escape the demands of everyday life, free to embrace the beauty of the natural world and the connection that exists between yourselves.

Sunset Mountain Walks From Your Eco Cabins

The area that surrounds our eco cabins is famed for its natural beauty. Proud mountains rise to dominate the horizon, interrupted by deep valleys and steep gorges that add character and intrigue to the scenery. The silver thread of waterfalls can be seen winding down their slopes, forming small but vital streams that feed the plant and animal life on and below the mountains.

Remarkable rock formations extend from the mountainside, displaying an incredible variety that betrays the Western Cape’s rich geologic history. Thousands upon thousands of species of the endemic fynbos blanket this landscape, creating a tapestry of greens and browns. Get closer, and you’ll spot the near countless varieties of flowers that dot these unique plants.

These sights are all beautiful to behold, but it’s difficult to deny that their greatest splendour comes during sunset. Rightfully dubbed the golden hour, this time sees the entire landscape become saturated with the rich golden tones of the setting sun. Moreover, not having to deal with the full ferocity of the midday sun, while still being able to enjoy the lingering warmth baked into the mountain, makes exploring the region during sunset a very comfortable experience. And that’s exactly what you ought to do.

The property surrounding our eco cabins is veined with small hiking trails that allow you to confidently explore the region, discovering key sights for yourself. A sunset hike with your partner is the perfect romantic activity to engage in before night falls, letting you share the experience of discovering such beautiful sights. In turn, we ask that you remain on these paths during your excursions to help prevent unnecessary damage to the fynbos.

Private Hot Tub Evenings At Your Eco Cabins

Our eco cabins have been built to perfectly balance the experience of being immersed in wilderness with luxury. In practicality, this means that our cabins are built with a significant distance between one another, creating a true sense of privacy and serenity. Our cabins are placed to maximise views of the surrounding nature.

The build of the cabins themselves encourages an outward-facing experience, allowing in plenty of natural light and with a patio where one can take in even more of the surrounding scenery. This overarching natural feel is emphasised by the use of natural materials in the construction of our cabins. On the other hand, this nature-centric experience does not come at the expense of comfort.

These cabins are built to be cosy and comfortable with a luxurious feel that relaxes and refreshes. Plush beds and couches, a fully stocked kitchen and a sleek bathroom allow our guests to enjoy the finer things in life, even so far from the hubbub of the big city. One of our foremost comforts takes the form of spacious hot tubs.

Taking advantage of the privacy of these cabins, we’ve elected to build these along the patio of the lodging, allowing you to soak beneath the stars. It’s the perfect romantic activity to enjoy with a partner, and perhaps, a bottle of your preferred wine too. We even have uncapped Wi-Fi, for those who need may need to stay online.

Wine Tasting Tours Near Your Eco Cabins

If you’re unsure which wine to bring with you to the hot tub, why not participate in a wine tasting to find your perfect pairing? The greater area in which our eco cabins are placed is known as the Winelands, and is world-renowned for producing some of the finest wines available on the market. More than just an industry, grape cultivation and wine production are a cornerstone of local culture in this area. Just a short drive from our eco cabins could take you to the doorstep of any number of wine estates, including the Breedekloof Wine Valley and the Worcester Wine and Olive Route.

Here, you’ll be able to wander the old Cape-Dutch farm houses and take part in wine tasting. Explore a wide range of local wines and benefit from the guidance of local experts, who are more than willing to introduce you and your partner to the finer points of oenology. There’s a large chance that your wine tasting will involve a pairing guide with other delicacies, such as jams, fresh fruit and cheeses. Most of these are also produced locally, another testament to the richness of the local culinary culture. Once you’ve selected your favourite wine (or wines), you’ll be able to purchase a bottle directly from their cellar and bring it back to your eco cabin to share during a romantic evening.

Couples’ Picnic Experiences At Eco Cabins

As previously mentioned, the area surrounding the eco cabins is known for its culinary richness. This is in no small part due to the agricultural nature of the region, yielding a range of crops that include grapes, wheat, peaches, olives, nectarines, pomegranates and more. There’s also a strong pastoral presence in this area, bolstering the supply of fresh and cured meats as well as outstanding dairy products. While most of these are wholly capable of pleasing the palate fresh, it’s their use in local cuisine that can turn them into true culinary experiences.

Drawing on a blended tradition of African, Dutch and Malaysian culinary traditions, the region offers a varied and international range of fish and delicacies. Whether it be a crumbly cheese, spiced meat pie, slice of fruit tart, or carafe of wine, you would be hard pressed to find an item that wouldn’t feel at home in a picnic basket. That’s why we recommend you head out to stock your own picnic basket with local goods. You can return to our eco cabins to enjoy your locally-sourced feast in peace and tranquillity. Whether it be from the comfort of your patio or during a hike out in the gorgeous mountains.

Stargazing Nights From Your Eco Cabins

There are many obvious things to appreciate about time taken away from the big city. Other than the presence of natural beauty, there’s a sense of openness about the mountain landscape that makes the urban setting of the city suddenly seem claustrophobic. There’s also the distinctive lack of noise, with the clamour of traffic and crowds being replaced by the soft sound of wind, the hum of cicadas and occasional birdsong. The air is much cleaner and fresher, carrying with it the spicy herbal scent of fynbos.

Yet, while it’s easy to mark the absence of noise, air and plastic pollution, the lack of light pollution isn’t as quickly pointed out. When night falls, you’ll truly begin to appreciate what it’s like to experience an uninterrupted darkness. Without the ambient glow of millions of lights coming from the ground, the stars above become visible in a way unparalleled by the city sky. Is there any activity more romantic than lying across the patio of our eco cabins with your partner at night, gazing up at the night sky and marvelling at the sprawl of the stars?

River Walks And Wildlife Watching Near Eco Cabins

We are fortunate enough to have been able to build our eco cabins on a piece of land fed by two streams that come down from the mountain. So close to its source, the water that runs through these streams is fresh, clean and very cold. In a country that can get as dry as South Africa does, streams like these are essential for maintaining both plant and animal life. Wherever water flows, local wildlife visibly flourishes, with notable blooms of green travelling all the way down their banks.

One of the most reliable ways to spot local fauna is to travel along these streams, as animals drink from them. These include hyraxes, duiker, cape porcupine, lizards, birds and more. Our hiking trails, which run along and across these streams, make for the perfect vantage point from which to view wildlife at a safe and respectful distance. It’s a great activity to undertake with a romantic partner, encouraging you to let go of your worries and focus on your surroundings instead. Make memories together as you marvel at these incredible examples of local wildlife while submerged in the beauty of nature.
